Meet The Chakras
Chakras are something that I’m sure 80% of the population has heard about, but I bet a far smaller percentage know and understand what they are and their purpose. The Chakras are energy centers in our bodies. There are 7 main chakras and countless smaller ones. When working with them they are seen as different colored spinning balls of energy in specific places on the body. Each one influences different parts of the physical body, mind, emotions, and our spirituality. We’re so rooted in the physical world that we forget we are, in essence, energy. Any unbalanced energy in the chakras can result in physical illness over time, not to mention living an unbalanced life. Below is a simple and very helpful introduction to the chakras.
The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine between the genitals and the anus. This energy center is Red. Physically, the Root Chakra is associated with the legs, hips, adrenals glands, bones & skeletal structure. This chakra is concerned with our basic physical needs, staying grounded, sexuality, stability, and security. When the Root Chakra is blocked or overactive, it will be because of problems in these areas. A person with a blocked Root can be depressed, passive, weak and lazy. An overactive Root can cause materialism, aggression, fear, and may even cause over-eating due to insecurity.
The Sacral Chakra is located about 2 inches below the belly button and is associated with the color Orange. Physically, the Sacral Chakra governs the sex organs, bowels bladder, womb, and prostate. This chakra rules your emotions, intuition, sexuality, and creativity. All those areas will be affected if this chakra isn’t balanced. When it’s overactive, a person can be greedy, emotionally unstable, and compulsive; when it’s blocked, a person can become depressed because of bottled up emotion, not creative, and have issues due to sexual repression. Psychically, this chakra is associated with the ability to feel energy, A.K.A empathy. This is also the infamous “gut” we are always urged to trust.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located above the belly button and below the rib cage and its color is Yellow. It corresponds physically to the Pancreas, muscles and the digestive system. The Solar Plexus Chakra is all about self-worth, your identity, and your will power. If this chakra becomes overactive, people can be nervous, bossy, narrow-minded, and demanding. When under-active, this will certainly make a person’s identity nebulous. People with an under-active solar plexus are usually extremely passive and easily taken advantage of.
The Heart Chakra is located in the middle of the chest and is seen as the color Green. This chakra affects the thymus, heart, lungs, the chest itself, and circulation. This one is pretty self-explanatory…the Heart Chakra is all about relationships and unconditional love, trust, and acceptance. This chakra is very interesting because in my opinion I don’t believe you can have an overactive Heart Chakra; no amount of pure unconditional love and compassion is too much. You can have an under-active or blocked Heart Chakra, which will result in fears of abandonment, loneliness, bitterness, and a general “closed off” attitude toward people.
The Throat Chakra is located, you guessed it, at your throat and it’s associated with the color Blue. This chakra physically has an affect of the thyroid, throat, mouth, ears, and voice. The Throat Chakra is concerned with communication, being heard, and self-expression. When this chakra is overactive, we may become less concerned with ourselves and too concerned with what other people are saying. It can also manifest in too much communication, not knowing when to listen and not speak. Under-active Throat Chakras will make a person feel silenced; it will also cause a person to speak poorly about themselves. The Throat Chakra is the energy center associated with clairaudience.
The Brow Chakra or Third Eye is located between your eyes at the level of the brow and this energy center is Indigo. The pituitary gland, eyes, nose, ears and brain are all influenced by this chakra. The Third Eye is extremely spiritual because it connects with our intuition and wisdom. When overactive, this chakra can make a person seem like they’re on another planet. They may be spacey, daydream too much or even become paranoid. When it’s closed off, this chakra can express itself as being naïve, shallow, self-absorbed, and, more obviously, foolish. This is probably the most famous of the chakras because of it’s associated with clairvoyance and because, in general, balancing this chakra really helps a person become more psychic.
The Crown Chakra is located right in the middle of the top of the head and is the color Violet. It correlates to the pineal gland, the skin, and the upper skull. The Crown Chakra governs our enlightenment, our connection to the divine, and our spirituality. An overactive crown can make a person not grounded and unaware of the world around them. You can also become “burned out” if this chakra is not opened properly. If it’s under-active, you can become disconnected from divinity and may become lost, bogged down by your own illusion of the physical world. This chakra is what Psychic Mediums use when they channel information from the other side. A healthy crown chakra will make you very psychic and a very nice conduit for energy.
